In Aalborg, the university chaplains are affiliated with AAU and UCN, where they offer free counselling, guidance, and church services to students and staff.

What is a university chaplain?

The role of the university chaplains is to be present in the university environment, offering a space for conversation, support and reflection.

The chaplains in Aalborg are employed by the Danish National Church and provide a church-based service for students and staff at Aalborg University (AAU) and University College of Northern Denmark (UCN). Both chaplains are also affiliated with Budolfi Church and the Monastery Church in Aalborg.

The chaplains’ responsibilities include:

  • Offering confidential counselling to students and staff
  • Planning and hosting academic and social events
  • Providing academic guidance and support within their areas of expertise, as well as offering consultations related to student projects and assignments
  • Performing church services such as baptisms, weddings and other ceremonies

Meet the two university chaplains

Nanna Elgaard Holm

Nanna holds a Master’s degree in Spanish and Religious Studies and later became an ordained priest. She has previously worked in education and development, including with the World Council of Churches in Switzerland and as an organisational chaplain. She is also trained as a reading group facilitator in the UK. Nanna is married and has two children.

Åse Merete Morsø

Åse is a qualified teacher, holds a Master’s degree in Theology, and is an ordained priest. She is also a senior lecturer in religion and philosophy and has taught in the teacher education programme. As a priest, she has worked in both Denmark and Sweden. Åse is trained as a psychotherapist, with further education in cognitive and metacognitive psychology, as well as sensitivity. She is married and has four adult children.
